Mark is the owner and photographer of Emerson Photography. Mark has always been interested in photographs and photography for as long as he can remember. Growing up, his grandfather and father were active photo enthusiasts, but he was never allowed to touch the photo equipment.
It wasn’t until college (1992), at Long Island University (Southhampton Campus), that Mark was able to take his first photography course. It was his first photography professor, Yoshi Higa, who offered him his first photography related job (1993). With this experience he got to study, work with, and meet, Pete Turner, Ralph Gibson, and John Woodward. Mark went on to graduate (1994) with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, with concentrations in Marketing/Management and Photography.
Mark worked for a portrait studio in NJ after college (1994) where he got to see how a portrait studio operates. He then moved (1995) near Albany, NY where he worked as a Portrait Photographer and Manager for one of Albany, NY’s leading portrait studios. Four years later (1998) he then started his own business. Mark would photograph families and weddings for clients he knew, as well as assist two of Albany’s leading commercial photographers on larger assignments for catalogues, advertising, and annual reports. It was this assisting, that made him want to get into commercial and advertising photography, on his own. (2001)
Currently (2010) Mark photographs weddings and takes any commercial assignment that comes his way. He also freelances as a 1st Assistant and Lighting Technician to Patrick Harbron, a good friend, and Editorial, TV, and Movie photographer. (www.patrickharbron.com). Working with Pat, Mark has worked in, and around, NYC on projects for Barron’s, Harvard Business Journal, Pitney Bowes' Priority Magazine, USA Weekend, ABC, and HBO.
